Balkan Criminology at the EuroCrim 2024

From 11-14 September 2024 the 24th Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology (EuroCrim 2024) will take place in Bucharest, Romania. The EuroCrim 2024 is organised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andra-Roxana Trandafir of the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest – Dr. Trandafir, is Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Law and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, as well as a Criminal Law Lawyer. She is the co-chair of the Working group on Balkan Criminology of the ESC and also part of the network established by the Max Planck Partner Group (MPPG) for Balkan Criminology together with the University of Zagreb.

Balkan Criminology will at the EuroCrim 2024 hold its traditional meeting of the ESC Working Group Balkan Criminology and thus organise a panel on “Balkan Criminology: Punishment and Prisons and their Alternatives” including presentations by Andra-Roxana Trandafir & Daniel Nitu (Crime, Punishment and its Alternatives in Romania); Anna-Maria Getoš Kalac (Prisons Responding to Overcrowding – Migration, Human Smuggling and THB); Hans-Jörg Albrecht (Immigration and Alternative Forms of Justice); Lea Feuerbach (Recidivism in Croatia).

Balkan Criminology will thus be represented at the EuroCrim 2024 through Prof. Dr. Getoš Kalac’s plenary speech about violence in the Balkans with reference to the Balkan Homicide Study.
