Head of Balkan Criminology assumes mandate as (Acting) President of the ESC

Prof. Dr. Anna-Maria Getoš Kalac, Head of Balkan Criminology and Full professor at the Zagreb University Faculty of Law, has taken on her mandate as acting President of the European Society of Criminology (ESC).

Her presidency begins at a moment of unprecedented political controversy within and around the ESC. While challenging, this first real stress-test of the Society as a scholarly association is also an opportunity: to reaffirm the ESC’s constitutional foundations, strengthen institutional resilience, and protect what makes the free exchange of ideas possible—pluralism, inclusivity, mutual respect, reasoned debate, and academic freedom.

In her Presidential Address, Logos of Criminology: Harm, Conflict, and Academic Freedom,” Prof. Getoš Kalac reflects on the current controversy through a criminological lens and sets out a principled agenda focused on acknowledging experienced harm, mediation, and safeguarding academic freedom.
